Scrubs Season 7 Review

Whenever I read people making fun of TV shows, I always feel like doing the same, and afte reading derok.net's excellently written review of season 4 of the OC, he's inspired me to write my own review of Season 7 so far of Scrubs. Which I openly will say, I HATE.

After sustaining 5 great seasons of absolute greatness, quirkiness and actual comedy, season 7 so far as garnered only minute laughs and a generously recycled list of jokes from every single season. We get it, you're trying to appeal to us fans who've been around for the last 7 years, GET ON WITH IT.

Episode One: My Own Worst Enemy

This episode starts out with JD and Elliot returning from last season. They almost kissed each other in the midst of huge commitments like Elliot's wedding and Kim's baby. Albeit it makes sense for these two star crossed doomsday lovers to freak out on commitments, but it's getting ridiculously old. Their relationship beyond the point of what people would be doing to Ryan and Marissa...pulling the gawdamn plug, Elliot and JD are just gawdawfully HORRIBLE for each other that even as an R/M shipper I can't appreciate the fact these two are always getting pulled toward each other. The chemistry was there, the love was there...these two just seem to be so miserable in their lives together and without each other. I can't even say I enjoy any of it and I loved every minute of the Ryan/Marissa doom song coaster. See where I'm going here? No? Well I'll move on.

First used joke. Snoop Dog intern who isn't actually an intern anymore, he's a resident oh wait no he's an attending. It's been used for the past two seasons. He's Snoop Dog attending now oh wow, let's just give it up shall we? The only part of this scene that makes me laugh is Josephine and her annoying voice. Which is like nails on chalkboard but after the first five minutes it's almost refreshing.

What's the new schtick? Dr. Cox hates Kelso and hates Newbie, J.D. is annoying, Turk's a diabetic, Kelso likes money, Elliot is psychotic, Keith is a dudemeister, Karla is judgmental...oh wait, new schtick?

Oup, second used joke that was only funny the first ten times they used it. It's beard fah-say people. I'll just keep a running tab of all the jokes now because I think complaining about every one of them will just make my head hurt. Where as I know enough that Scrubs is a show where the repetition *of* these silly little jokes makes the show enjoyable, it's not enjoyable if the same old jokes that were not funny in the first place are used again and again because they were minorly entertaining the first few times. It's just like how they skimped on Seth's lines in season 3 and 4 because they thought, "He's Seth, so everything he says *must* be funny!" Not.

Moving on...
Third used joke: JD recites the names of all the girls he's dated in the past. Used in "My Half Acre"...you know, the episode with Mandy Moore? Mobutt, Tina Two Kids, Gift Shop Girl, Rumplefugly? Yeah. I watched that episode five times, and I know that joke was used and it was funny and actually understandable when it was used by Turk.

Gawd, at this point in the show Dr. Cox starts liking this patient...Joe. He says he doesn't like patients and where he's right mostly he fails to recall a series of patients he actually enjoyed treating. How about Mrs. Wilk? He sure liked her. I'm starting to get a little annoyed of Dr. Cox's little rants about "Well bla I do my job, bla I don't kill people, bla I don't like people." Yeah we know, you've said it every episode of every season, time to hang this joke up because it's a dying horse.

Enjoyable Points:

- Dr. Kelso. Although he's kind of old in the routine too, his delivery of his lines is absolutely flawless. He even manages to take the "Turk smells like eggs when he sweats" joke and make it funny (that even possible?). He was perfectly on time and on cue. Sure, he used the same "insurance bla bla bla..." gawd hasn't that been used already? In every season? Anyway, back from that tangent, he was the enjoyable part.

- Kim. I love Elizabeth Banks' portrayal of Kim and I think she is such an amazing cast member. Plus, she's way better for J.D. in a plethora of ways, but I guess I can take solace in knowing at least one show knew that you have to let the core four end up together for life. Spoilers, obviously but you're not missing much anyway.

Total Re-used jokes:
3 + (I just stopped counting)

Total Re-used ideas:
Cox hates Kelso, Kelso kicks people out on the dime if they don't have insurance, Elliot is crazy, J.D. is a commitaphobe, Turk is a diabetic, Cox can't treat patients he actually likes...you get the idea.

Rating: TV Shack gives it a 5/5
I give it a 2/5 and I'm being generous.
